Below  is shown a chart published by the Literary Digest for an article "Shipwreck, Storm, and Florida's Canal." President Franklin Roosevelt had recently approved $5 million of the $4 billion work relief fund for the Army Corps of Engineers for preliminary work on a cross-Florida canal.
 
The fourth chart is the most controversial and was published September 8, 1935 by the Miami
 Tribune.
